Arroyo Laguna Luna, a newborn elephant seal pup, spends only a month nursing with her mom. When her mom leaves, she joins a pod of other weaned pups, watching the surf, next to a peaceful creek where they will first venture into the water. She sends a cute pup’s greeting in appreciation!
Northern elephant seals populate off shore islands and some mainland coastal areas of North America. Rookeries extend from Baja California to as far north as British Columbia. The Piedras Blancas Rookery, in San Simeon California extends along 8 miles of pristine central California coastline. Our collection of northern elephant seals available for symbolic adoption features elephant seals from several areas of our rookery. Each symbolic adoption supports the Friends of the Elephant Seal’s mission to educate the public and provide stewardship for the Piedras Blancas northern elephant seal colony.
