Life at sea is no easy feat for the elephant seal. Their time on the beach gives them a chance to get some much needed rest at the safety of the Piedras Blancas Elephant Seal Rookery. When elephant seals are born they already have 5 finger nails. This seal looks like they are making use of those nails to take care of a little scratch on their flipper.
