CalTrans is repairing a failed culvert at the Piedras Blancas Elephant Seal Viewing Area. This emergency repair will address a sinkhole that has developed on the trail in the north beach viewing area.
The north end of the parking area and access to the north beach boardwalk and viewing platforms will be closed until the repair is completed. The south end of the parking area and south beach viewing platforms and boardwalk will remain open during this time.
Visitors may best access the north beach viewing platform from the parking area about 1/4 mile north of the larger Elephant Seal Viewing Area, adjacent to the Boucher Trailhead. There’s a left lane turnout and signage indicating “Vista Point.” Parking in this smaller area is limited. Visitors are encouraged to visit early and on weekdays for best access during this time.
Also, don’t miss the elephant seals on the Piedras Blancas South beach!
